I’m Louis L. Bispo, or L. Lawrence as I sign my artwork these days. I’m an aspiring illustrator and a student of figure drawing, portrait painting and fine art. I’m fascinated with color theory and composition, and an amateur researcher into the history of artist’s techniques and materials. My hobby, my obsession, and perhaps someday my business, is the making of natural and historic artist’s colors. I grow my own plants for natural dye-based lake pigments and inks, and forage for natural earths and minerals to make into natural pigments as well. I also follow historic recipes for making synthetic pigments from ordinary materials. Although I presently buy many of the natural colors and dyestuffs I use from suppliers, I hope that someday I’ll be able to produce most or all of my pigment materials myself. Sunsikell is the name of my endeavor.

I wish I could send this link to you Dad in heaven. He would be so pleased and so impressed. And I can just hear him say, “of course, he’s my son, what else would you expect.”

Thank you Suzy. I will leave your comment up for a time and then take it down, since it is so personal to me. But I wanted you to know how much I appreciate it.
